Artist Statement: As an artist deeply rooted in the tapestry of Chicago, my work is an exploration of the violence that shadows our city’s communities. I am driven to bring awareness to the profound impact of violence on the lives of individuals and the collective spirit of our city. In this project titled, “too close,” I painted every intersection of a homicide by gun within the city of Chicago’s limits during the 2023 calendar year. The piece consists of five-hundred and twenty-one (521) paintings.
